However, the coalition's vote remained steady at 45 per cent and it retained its two-party preferred election-winning lead of 53 per cent to 47 per cent, said the survey published in The Australian newspaper today.

Gillard's personal support, however, has not improved and remained near her lowest levels of voter satisfaction. With regards to satisfaction with the job Gillard is doing as Prime Minister fell from 29 to 27 per cent and dissatisfaction with her virtually unchanged at 60 per cent.

Satisfaction with Tony Abbott, the leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, rose from 32 to 34 per cent and dissatisfaction fell from 56 to 54 per cent.

This is the prime minister's best result since she led Abbott by one percentage point in June.
