A day after an incident of a roof collapse here, Panaji mayor Surendra Furtado today said there were another ten old and dilapidated structures in the city but no action was being taken about them.
Furtado said the list of these structures was submitted to commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues a few months back, and he was supposed to forward it to district disaster management authority (DDMA), but he was yet to process the file.
The delay by the commissioner had put hundreds of people at risk, the mayor claimed.
The structures figuring in the list are very old. Two of them are Progress High School and Mahatme High School. Another building is situated inside Panaji market complex, which is visited by thousands of people every day.
While Progress High School has more than a thousand students, Mahatme High School was closed down this year.
The dilapidiated building in the market complex is owned by Panaji city corporation.
A slab of the roof of the century-old building of Club Nacional here collapsed yesterday. Nobody was injured.
