A Babbar Khalsa International terrorist, who is wanted for murder and bombing in Punjab, has been arrested in the southern Portugal town of Evora.
Paramjeet Singh, alias Pamma, against whom a red corner notice was issued, was arrested from a hotel where he was staying with his wife and four children aged between seven and 11, sources said.
India is likely to send an extradition request to Portugal soon as a court in Evora is awaiting for a formal request from New Delhi.
Singh is a leader of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and wanted for conspiracy in two 2010 bomb attacks in Punjab and the 2009 killing of Rulda Singh, leader of a Hindu group, officials said.
Paramjeet Singh lived in Britain, where he obtained political asylum in 2004.
Sources said several Sikh groups based in Canada and UK have been trying prevent Singh's extradition to India.
At least 6,000 Euros was collected in France and 20,000 pounds was collected in UK, apparently to fight Singh's case to prevent him extradited to India, sources said.
