In a communication to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Bajwa said Punjab was a land locked state and connectivity of border areas with main land routes and setting up of big industrial units would revive the economy of the state.
He said that a cancer hospital at the cost of Rs 500 crore was approved for Sangrur district and a Central university was set up in Bathinda.
Bajwa said "too little focus" on industry and infrastructure development by the SAD-BJP government had pushed Punjab from 1st to 12th position on the national graph.
Bajwa said that he would also meet the Prime Minister to announce special package for the border districts.
"Punjab should be duly compensated by allowing a similar package for border districts to offset the colossal loss suffered due to the concessions already given to neighbouring states," he added.
