Ban on entry of tourists inside WWS extended to April 23

The ban on entry of tourists inside Muthanga and Tholpetti eco-tourism zones of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary has been extended up to April23 due to possibilities of wildfires breaking out in the areas.
Considering the severe drought conditions and water scarcity, the tourists entry into the zones was banned from February 21-March 31 by the Wayanad Wildlife Warden. Further, tourist activities inside the forest and movement of wild animals in search of fodder and water will result in a man animal conflict endangering their lives and so the ban was imposed.
As there is no improvement in conditions and the summer rain in the regions was scanty, the Principal Chief Forest Conservator (Wildlife) has ordered extending the ban based on the Wayanad Wildlife Warden's recommendation, an official release said.
