Traders of various markets including Lahori Gate, Sirhandi Bazaar, Gurmandi, Quilla Chowk, Adaalat Bazaar, Dharampura Bazaar, Daldaliya Chowk, Sherawala Chowk and other parts kept their shops shut.
The bandh call was given by 'Vyaapar Bachao Sangharsh Committee' with the support of District Congress Committee (DCC).
The shopkeepers protested the imposition of tax, saying that the state government had been putting burden on urban population in order to mobilise more resources.
DCC President Prem Kishanpuri said the government has levied tax as it has run out of cash to pay even salaries.
