"Bangali Babu English Mem' can be called a fusion experiment of two different genres of film making - single screen masala and the multiplex-based Gen Y type," the sugary super-duper hit 'Paran Jay Jwalia Re' director told PTI.
"It is comedy-based where people will get 200 per cent entertainment but the approach of romance is totally different in this flick with more thrust given on the contrasting economic and social backgrounds of the characters. Here it is more in the mould of current crop of realistic genres," he said.
"I am not doing another Chander Pahar or Bhooter Bhabisyot.. I am not reinventing them. What I wish is to make another film, on different subject, with realistic contents bearing my style," he said.
Mimi, cast in Shabdo, Apur Panchali maker Kaushik Ganguly's upcoming Khaad, said, "I find switching over from one genre to another interesting as it extracts performance from an actor. From Abhijit Guha-Sudeshna Roy to Birsa (Dasgupta) to Ravij, I am portraying today;s woman in different shades. May be I am more extrovert like my true self in life in one and introvert, shy in another, But everywhere I do connect with the characters as all the directors take care not to show the female characters as set props any more," she said.
Popular genre script writer N K Salil, said the title, the film story line, the contrasting characters and the songs all talk about fusion of different strands -of social background, of places as disparate as Canada and Bengal, of two different schools of cinema.
