The West Bengal government plans to come out with a comprehensive skill policy to boost skilling initiatives in the state.
"We are in the process of formulising a comprehensive skill policy (which is) on anvil and will be unveiled in January," Technical Education Department Secretary Ritesh Mohan said here today at the launch of The Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) office.
He said the policy will also focus on skills in iron and steel and mining sectors.
The state government has provided space for IISSSC at New Town for training. The office was inaugurated by state technical education minister Ujjal Biswas and IISSSC Chairman and Tata Steel Managing Director T V Narendran.
Apart from housing, the office of IISSSC and holding conferences and workshops for various aspects of skill development, the space would also be utilised for conducting 'train-the-trainer' programme.
T V Narendran, Managing Director of Tata Steel India and Chairman IISSSC, said the council aims to create a skill database by identifying the current and future skill requirements, both in terms of numbers and types of skills of the iron and steel and allied industries.
