The seven-minute video depicts Beyonce as pageant queen 'Miss 3rd Ward'.
The video explores the definition of pretty, following Beyonce as an entrant in the beauty contest as she squabbles with other competitors and undergoes various measures to remain 'pretty'.
The video was released to coincide with Beyonce fronting the cover of TIME's Top 100 Most Influential People issue.
"It's something important for me as an artist, because it's not about fashion or beauty or music, it's about the influence I've had on culture," she said of the accolade.
