Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said that his government is following the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi by banning liquor and empowering women in the state.

The district is a native place of Raj Kumar Shukla, a farmer on whose persuasion Gandhi had set off on his Champaran satyagraha to support indigo planters.
Kumar said that the government would develop all the places associated with Gandhi's visit in Bihar.
"There is a well at Langat Singh college in Muzaffarpur where Gandhiji had taken a bath. The well has been preserved all these years. I saw that there is no water in it and ordered for digging," the Chief Minister said.
