Biting cold conditions eased a little today in the western and southern parts of West Bengal with rise in night temperature, while the northern and eastern districts continued to suffer from severe cold conditions.
Coochbehar in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal recorded the lowest temperature in the state's plains at 5.2 degree Celsius, the Met department said.
Krishnagar in Nadia district was the second coldest at 6.6 degree Celsius, followed by Asansol that recorded 8.0 degree Celsius.
The Met department has forecast cold day conditions in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and parts of Gangetic plains where dense fog in the morning may affect normal life.
The weatherman has also predicted dense fog with visibility down to 50 metres tomorrow at Sagar Island, situated at the confluence of River Ganga and Bay of Bengal, where lakhs of pilgrims from all over the country have congregated for the Gangasagar Mela.
In Kolkata, minimum temperature rose a little to 12.3 degree Celsius, but it was still about three notches below average for this time of the year.
Cold night and day conditions are likely to continue throughout the state for the next three days, the Met department said.
