BJP demands white paper on laws for unorganised labour class

"It is indeed very unfortunate that the unorganised labour class in Jammu and Kashmir has been totally neglected by the government, which is not less than a crime," Prahlad Patel, Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Mahasangh National president and former Union Minister, alleged.

"Hence, it becomes imperative on part of the government to issue a white paper containing information regarding the implementation of laws enacted for the welfare and protection of their rights," he demanded at a 1-day conference on the unorganised sector here.

The unorganised labour class was suffering due to their weak financial position, and the commercialisation of education has put a question mark on the future of their children, he said while asking the government to ensure free higher and technical education to them.

While rejecting the entry of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector, he claimed such a decision will prove to be disastrous for the unorganised labour class.

The government should grant a monthly pension of Rs 1,500 to each such labourer after the age of 55 years or if they become incapable of physical work, he said.

BJP state chief Shamsher Singh Manhas alleged that both organised and unorganised sectors in the state have been made to suffer due to the indifferent attitude of the government towards them.
