Former Union minister R P N Singh today said the BJP government failed to take a firm stand on issues with China and Pakistan in the last one year despite its "tall promises" made to the people during the Lok Sabha elections.
The minister of State for Home Affairs in the UPA government said the Prime Minister announced e-visa for China but failed to raise the issue of Arunachal Pradesh and border disputes with China effectively during his recent visit to Beijing.
"A total of 746 cases of intrusion on Indo-Pak border were reported this year, which are high as compared to the previous year. This shows that the government has not been able to handle the situation effectively," he told reporters here.
Singh said the BJP made various promises to people in its election manifesto, including hike in MSP, but its government failed to fulfill it.
"Reduced defence spending, record increase in ceasefire violations and cross border firing and infiltrations on the borders, non implementation of one rank one pension scheme for ex-servicemen are among other points which mark the one year of Modi government," he said.
He also accused the government of compromising national interest by downsizing Mountain Strike Corps, formation of which was announced by the former UPA government.
Singh also alleged that the India's deal with France to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets in fly away condition was non-transparent and demanded from the government to disclose the price of the aircrafts.
