"During elections they (BJP) made several promises as every high profile minister of the central government made a beeline in these areas but as now the elections are over, they have forgotten the miseries of the border residents," NC provincial president and MLA-elect Nagrota Devender Singh Rana told reporters here today.
Rana alleged while a lot was being said on rehabilitating the victims of cross-border firing only Rs 1,500 has so far been paid to them as compensation.
Rana said that after the elections, BJP's priorities have changed and now they were concerned about exploring the "ways and means" on the government formation in the state.
"Why are they now raising the issue of border residents, when the bullets are being fired on the border it's the people who live on the border are affected," he said.
Rana said the Centre must take steps to ensure the safety and security of the border residents who have suffered due to the continuous ceasefire violations from across the border.
"It is the border residents who are bearing the brunt of the border firing," he said.
NC leader Kamal Arora, who has won the last Assembly election from from Bishnah constituency, said, "The government must ensure the safety and security of the border residents."
Arora said that the government must move the border residents to a safer position for some time and then deal with the way it wants to deal with the situation on the border.
"Bombs are dropping on our doorsteps but now nobody is bothered about us. The media too is not reporting on the people," he said.
