Opposition Congress today took umbrage to a BJP MLA's reference in the Chhattisgarh Assembly to former prime minister Manmohan Singh who has been summoned by a special CBI court in connection with the allocation of coal blocks, saying the BJP is "diverting" discussion on civil supplies scam.
The Assembly also witnessed an uproar over various issues before the Congress staged a walk out demanding a CBI probe into "corruption" in the civil supplies corporation.
Demanding resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh in this connection, the Congress also accused the BJP government of failing to fulfill its poll promise of providing bonus of Rs 300 per quintal of paddy to farmers.
Soon after Question Hour, senior Congress MLA Dhanendra Sahu sought a discussion through an adjournment motion notice on the "police atrocity" on Congress workers and leaders who tried to gherao the Assembly yesterday over various demands related to farmers and labourers.
Joining him on the issue, Leader of Opposition T S Singhdeo said the police used force, and lathi-charged the Congress workers without taking due permission from district administration, which is unjustified and needed to be probed.
Other Congress leaders also demanded discussion on the issue.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Shivratan Sharma raised the issue of the coal block allocation scam and said CBI has summoned former PM Manmohan Singh in this connection.
Interrupting him, Congress members went on their toes and started shouting slogans against the state government for "unnecessarily" raising the issue concerning a person who is not a member of the state Assembly.
If the ruling BJP is raising the issue of former PM, then we will also raise the issue of a Rs 26,000 crore scam under the watch of Narendra Modi Government in Gujarat as pointed out by CAG; forged certificates of Union Minister Smriti Irani; role of Modi and Amit Shah in snooping of a woman and many more, Singhdeo said.
This prompted BJP members to raise slogans against Congress.
Meanwhile, Singhdeo demanded the BJP MLA's reference to Manmohan Singh be expunged from the records of the Assembly.
