BJP MLAs' resolutions turned down by Delhi Assembly

Two private member resolutions moved by Opposition BJP members today fell short of votes in the Delhi Assembly, dominated by the ruling AAP.

The first resolution moved by Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta sought "sincere" implementation of schemes for labourers of the city.

Development Minister Gopal Rai said the government monitored the schemes and it was determined not to allow the wastage of even a single paisa for the workers.

"We have sought suggestions from everyone. Even you can give suggestion about welfare measures for the workers," he said in response to the resolution passed by Gupta.

The resolution was turned down by voice vote.

The second resolution was moved by BJP MLA Jagdish Pradhan. He wanted the government to table the report of 5th Finance Commission for the national capital in the House.

In the second part of the resolution, Pradhan demanded funds for municipal corporations as per recommendations of the 4th Finance Commission.

Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain, replying to the resolution, said the government was ready to implement the 4th Finance Commission recommendation "in toto", provided the Centre followed suit.

"There are certain recommendations in the 4th Finance Commission report that are to be met by the Centre," he said.

Jain also hit out at the BJP MLA for demanding more funds for municipal corporations while not paying attention to the recommendations on handing over the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which owns valuable land parcels in the national capital, to the Delhi government.
