BJP MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad today met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her residence and reportedly reiterated his faith in her honesty which he had affirmed yesterday.
"Azad was there for 30 minutes at Mamata Banerjee's residence and briefed her about his interaction with the media yesterday," sources in the Trinamool Congress told PTI here.
"He told Banerjee that he felt strongly about her honesty," the sources claimed.
The former cricketer told the chief minister that he would come again in March when he would organise a cricket match which he wanted her to inaugurate, they said.
Azad, who left the city later in the day, could not be contacted over phone.
Expressing faith in the Trinamool Congress supremo's honesty, Azad had yesterday said that it was unthinkable for him to doubt her credentials as he had known her for over two decades.
"I cannot think in the wildest of my dreams that Mamatadi is dishonest. I have known her for more than two decades. I have family relations. She gives 'Bhai Phota' (a festival when sisters apply 'tilak' or 'teeka' on the forehead of brothers) to me," Azad had said.
BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh has, however, said that what Azad said about Banerjee was his personal views and not that of the party.
