The CPI(M) and CPI today jointly celebrated here 70th anniversary of Victory Day - defeat of Nazi Germany by erstwhile Soviet Union during the Second World War.
Addressing the event, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury accused the BJP and RSS of trying to bring in a "neo-fascist" system in the India replacing secular democratic republic of the country, "copying" what Hitler did 70 years ago.
"The rise of fascism required spreading hatred amongst majority against minorities. Hitler imbibed such hatred against Jews amongst Aryans. Consolidating Aryans, he created base of fascism.
Yechury accused the Government of running campaign on the lines of (Joseph) Goebbels' (propaganda minister during Hitler regime) principles to distort India's history saying such practice was being followed in universities and research organisations to influence people.
"If a lie is big enough and spoken frequently enough, it becomes a truth is what Goebbels' principle is. But what is the intention behind them (BJP-RSS) running such a campaign... to follow the methods and create similar atmosphere in the country.
During his speech, the Rajya Sabha member also lauded contributions of communists during the Indian freedom struggle and questioned the role of RSS.
CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy echoed similar views and expressed concerns over capitalist forces creating tensions amongst countries.
"To save secularism and to fight communalism, we need to develop broad platform. To fight such tendencies and cultural terrorism by Hindu outfits, we need to spread awareness amongst people," he added.
