Accusing the city Government of "total failure" in containing onion prices, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel today said his party will sell the vegetable at around Rs 40 a kg at all the 70 assembly constituencies from Wednesday.
"We will sell onion at all the 70 assembly segments from Wednesday. We have taken the decision to sell the vegetable as Delhi Government is not doing anything to bring down the rate of onion," Goel said.
Onion is being sold at Rs 70-80 a kg in most areas of the city.
The Delhi unit of the BJP had started selling the vegetable at Rs 25 a kg yesterday in some areas.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today accused BJP of "politicising" the issue of rising prices of onion.
With onion prices shooting through the roof, Delhi government on Saturday had facilitated selling of the kitchen staple at around Rs 50 a kg at 1,000 points across the city.
A total of 150 mobile vans were deployed to sell onion across the city.
"The Delhi government has totally mismanaged the onion crisis. That is why we have decided to help people by selling onion at reasonable rates," Goel said.
