The state BJP today said the deployment of paramilitary forces in West Bengal during civic polls would be pointless unless the right to mobilise them is given to the Election Commission.
State BJP president Rahul Sinha said that the central forces should also be deployed in every booth to prevent rigging.
"The deployment of paramilitary forces will be just an eyewash unless the right to deploy them is vested with the EC. We want paramilitary force in booths and not camped in police stations. As long as the deployment power remains with the state, it will make no difference in preventing manipulation," he said.
On the Saradha issue, he said let the chief minister show courage to reply to the CBI notice as people of Bengal want to know the truth.
The CBI has resent a notice to Trinamool Congress All- India General Secretary seeking details of the party's accounts.
Sinha also urged the state government not to neglect the incident of blast at Belur and recalled the Khagraghar blast which was initially termed as a LPG gas cylinder blast.
"If we find negligence on the part of the state in getting the incident investigated then we will demand an NIA probe," he said.
Referring to the attack on police yesterday in Hooghly district allegedly by TMC supporters, Sinha observed that in a state where policemen themselves were not safe, people could very well imagine how safe they were under their (TMC) rule.
Sinha alleged that in Bansberia ward 16, BJP candidate Biswajit Das's house had been mooted and demolished by TMC supporters seeking withdrawal of his candidature from the election.
"Das's entire family is out of locality and he is unable to enter his ward. He had submitted a written complaint to the DM, local police station and SP much before this incident," Sinha alleged.
