BJP would provide a stable government in Karnataka and put development, which has suffered during the Congress-JD(S) regime, back on track, BJP General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao said here on Tuesday.

"The six crore people of Karnataka suffered in the coalition government's rule during the past one year. It was promised to Karnataka people that BJP government would put it back on track. People have that confidence," he told reporters here.

BJP, which is in power at the Centre,acted democratically and with a lot of patience all through the developments in Karnataka though the Governor's directives were not adhered to, he said, claiming that BJP's respect has been 'enhanced'.

He also claimed that many MLAs in JD(S) and Congress, who are fed up with the politics of the two parties, wanted to join the BJP.

"Under the leadership of Modi ji, they want a stable government at the Centre and in the state. They wish that Karnataka achieve development accordingly. Therefore, the party will further expand in Karnataka," Rao said.

Rao dismissed reports of some JD(S) legislators impressing upon party chief H D Kumaraswamy to extend external support to the BJP government in Karnataka, saying that the media was spreading such news.

"We don't need anybody's support. We don't need the support of (Congress chief) Siddaramaiah or Kumaraswamy. BJP has the ability to run the government in Karnataka on its own. The same ability will be there in future. We will certainly win," he said.

On reported comments of Kumaraswamy that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa should focus on good governance rather than 'poaching' (MLAs), Rao said no such thing has been seen in Karnataka.

Citing media reports, he said, "there are a number of legislators in Janata Dal who are saying we should support BJP. So anticipating that there will be a future problem, he (Kumarswamy) is charging BJP. We have nothing to do with it".

On the reported comments of former Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar that he had performed his Constitutional duty well in disqualifying the 17 rebel MLAs, Rao alleged that the Speaker had been "partial right from the beginning, till conducting the trust vote".

On July 26, Yediyurappa was sworn in as Chief Minister, three days after the Congress-JDS coalition government fell under the weight of rebellion by a big chunk of its lawmakers, when it lost the motion of confidence in the state assembly.
