Addressing rallies at Alangudi and adjoining places, he said it was BJP that brought the distribution of watches to the notice of the Election Commission.
"It is a clear violation of the election code of conduct and the Election commission has not taken any action so far over the distribution of watches", he said
Raja also said Tamil Nadu was facing a drought like situation with water scarcity looming large and the problem of power shortage added to the woes of the people.
Addressing an election rally in Ramanathapuram, bordering Chidambaram's native Sivaganga district, recently, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had demanded a probe by the Election Commission, alleging that wrist watches with photos of the Finance Minister were being distributed to voters. Hitting back, Chidambaram dubbed him a "compulsive liar" and an "encounter Chief Minister".
