Bohras celebrate Prophet's birthday

Thousands of Dawoodi Bohras from across the world took part in a celebratory procession in the city today on the eve of 'Eid e Milad al-Nabi', the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.
Tens of thousands of community members participated in the birthday procession ('mawkib'), which started after the evening prayers from Saifee High School at Pydhonie in South Mumbai and reached 'Raudat Tahera' mausoleum nearby, a release issued here stated.
As a part of the 'Milad al-Nabi' celebrations, a free eye and dental check-up camp was organised by the Saifee Hospital Trust and A P Sanatorium Trust.
The Dawoodi Bohra community, a Shia Muslim sect, will continue with the Prophet's birthday celebrations tomorrow.

"This year the theme of procession largely focused on the upcoming annual upliftment drive which is aimed at serving and helping those in less fortunate circumstances, a key teaching of Nabi (Prophet) Mohammed," a community spokesperson said.
"Floats conveyed various social messages including enhancing personal health and hygiene, improving living spaces and feeding those who are in need," he added.
