Bonfiglioli's new mftg facility in Chennai goes on stream

: The new manufacturing facility of Bonfiglioli Transmission Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Italy-based Bonfiglioli Riduttori S.p.A., has gone on stream with the unit commencing operations this month.

Under its expansion drive, the company has set up a 1.32 lakh square foot facility, adjacent to the existing plant in Thirumudivakkam in the city, with a capacity to produce 75,000 units of gear boxes, gear motors and drive systems a year.

The facility would enable the company serve existing and new customers in off-highway, construction, mining, agriculture and material handling applications, a company statement said.

Company Chairman, Sonia Bonfiglioli said, "We have grown over the years, investing in plants, Research and Development centers and highly specialized staff. India is a key country for Bonfiglioli and the good results show we were right when we started the business here in Chennai".

The setting up of the new facility was part of the company's global investment strategy in production and assembly facilities, she said.

The company has a similar facility at Sriperumbudur, manufacturing gearboxes and gearmotors for mobile machinery and turbines.

Bonfiglioli has an assembly plant in Pune that serves customers in food packaging, cement, steel, pharmaceutical, textile, material handling and sugar, among others.

Globally, Bonfiglioli operates in 21 countries with 14 production facilities and has over 3,700 employees.
