Book helps south Indian doctors address language problem

South Indian doctors working at PGIMER here will now be able to understand the local language of patients, especially from Punjab and Haryana, using a book penned for them specially.
The book titled 'Sat Sri Akal Doctor Saheb' penned by Panditrao Dharennavar, an Assistant Professor at PG Government College here, aims to to help doctors doctors from South India to learn Punjabi and Hindi language so as to understand the patients' problems effectively.
"The motive behind writing this book is to make patients converse with doctors in their own mother tongue," said Dharennavar, who is also from Karnataka.
This book is much needed for the south Indian resident doctors to handle the language problem, he said at the release of the book.
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has over 40 per cent of doctors from south India for whom this book will be helpful, he said.
"The book includes the lesson to learn Punjabi and Hindi language. This book also includes conversation between doctor and patients in Punjabi, Hindi, Himachali, Haryanvi and Nepali," he said.
The book was released by Dr Yogesh Chalwa, Director of PGIMER today.
Dharennavar, who has learned Punjabi, has penned 12 books in the language, besides translating 'Sri Jap Ji Saheb, Sri Sukhamni Saheb and Zafaranama' into Kannada. He teaches Punjabi to PGI doctors here.
