The revenge movie got into major trouble when it lost its director Lynne Ramsay, the day before shooting was to begin over creative and contract issues, said Hollywood Reporter.
The 38-year-old actor will now be directed by the film's new director Gavin O'Connor.
Cooper will play the villain role that was vacated by Law, who departed the project after the original director left.
Copper is currently shooting for David O Russell's untitled movie which is loosely inspired by the true-life Abscam sting of the late 1970s and early 80s'.
