The stormy weather has sparked fears that trees could be uprooted and power lines damaged as forecasters warned of winds as strong as those which caused widespread damage in 2013.
Two amber warnings have been issued by the Met Office - telling people to "be prepared" - for the north and central belt of Scotland, while a yellow warning has been issued for the rest of Scotland as gusts of up to 70 mph are expected.
Forecasters said the 250 mph jet stream will bring two "vigorous depressions" to the UK over the coming days.
England, Wales and Northern Ireland are also set to be hit with strong winds of up 60 mph.
Britain has witnessed widespread destruction when storms arrived on the country's south coast in October 2013, leaving thousands of homes without power, uprooting trees, disrupting traffic and cancellation of a number of flights.
