Four months after a married woman's body was found dumped in the mangroves of Dharavali village in Malwani area here, three persons, including her brother-in-law, have been arrested, police said today.
While Mohammad Rais Kureshi, brother-in-law of deceased Ruby (22), was arrested last Saturday, two of his aides -- Mohammad Issak Kureshi and Mohammad Rasul alias Shabbir -- were picked up yesterday, they said.
According to police, Ruby had married Rais' younger brother Aazaad against the wishes of his family. "On several occasions, Ruby and Rais used to get into arguments," police said in a release.
On the afternoon of January 3, when Aazad had left for work, the trio allegedly strangulated Ruby and smashed her head with a brick, it said.
They also raped her after the murder "to take revenge," it stated.
"After committing the murder, the accused removed all her clothes, tied her hands and legs and then wrapped the body in a gunny bag. They then travelled to Dharavali village in Malwani area of western suburbs and dumped the gunny bag in the mangroves," police said.
On January 9, the locals informed the police about a foul smell emanating from the sack lying near a nullah there.
Rais came under the police's scanner after investigators found his answers contradictory, following which he was arrested and subsequently spilled the beans on the crime.
All the accused have been remanded in police custody till May 27, police said.

A majority of shops and business establishments at Sathyamangalam in Erode district remained closed.
