BSNL officer held for accepting bribe

A senior BSNL officer has been arrested by CBI for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 in bribe from a contractor in Ahmednagar for returning official favour, an official said today.
The amount was said to be the first instalment of total bribe of Rs one lakh which was allegedly sought from the contractor for awarding him optical fibre laying work.
On complaint of the contractor, the CBI team laid a trap at BSNL Office and arrested the sub-divisional officer when he was allegedly accepting the amount yesterday.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Following the arrest, CBI conducted searches at the office and residential premises of the officer, and recovered some incriminating documents about immovable properties and investments.
The officer was remanded in CBI custody.
