In yet another incident of road rage in the national capital, a bus driver was allegedly shot in the abdomen by a property dealer last night in East Delhi's Jagatpuri area, police said today.
The incident took place around 10 PM at Karakri crossing when the private bus driver, identified as Mohammed Nazim was shot by one Punit Gupta (26).
Nazim was rushed to a nearby hospital, soon after the incident where his condition is said to be critical, they said.
According to police, Gupta was travelling in a car along with his four friends identified as Ankit, Pranab, Harsh and Yogi.
"He was trying to overtake the bus for long but not able to do so. During a desperate attempt, the two vehicles brushed each other following which a heated argument ensued between the bus driver and the occupants of the car," said a senior police official.
The argument soon turned into a scuffle during which Nazim first slapped one of Gupta's friends and then allegedly injured three others with a knife. Gupta then pulled out a pistol and shot Nazim following which they fled from the spot, he said.
Some passersby made a PCR call after which Ankit, Pranab and Harsh were arrested near Mayur Vihar following a chase. However, Gupta and Yogi managed to escape leaving the vehicle behind, police said.
Ankit, Pranab and Yogi, who had received minor injuries, were also given medical aid, police said, adding a case of attempt to murder has been registered and efforts were on to nab Gupta and Yogi.
