The scheme was formally inaugurated today by the chief minister during a programme to markNational Girl Child Day here in Telibandha area, an official here said.
Under the scheme,sanitary napkin ATM vending machines are being installed in around 2000 high and higher secondary schools across the state.
Speaking onthe occasion, CM Singh said daughters of India are succeeding in every walk of life and glorifying the name of the county.
The CM further added that Chhattisgarh has second best sex ratio after Kerala.
Meanwhile, he also called on people to end the social evil of female foeticide and promote girl education.
Briefing about the 'Suchita' scheme, Secretary Women and Child development department M Geeta told PTI that in several schools, including of Raipur district, this vending machine has already been installed while the installation in about 2000 schools will be completed soon.
Initially, 7200 napkins will be made available free of cost. Later, it will be provided at the nominal cost of Rs 2 per napkin.
These machines will be set up inside girls' washroom in the schools.
The aim is to encourage girls maintain personal and menstrual hygiene, she said.
For the purpose, the department has also roped in master trainers who will take classes of girl students to apprise them about importance of personal hygiene and make them aware of its benefits for their health, she said.
