The main opposition party said the state government should stopputting blame onfamily disputes and alcoholism for the suicides.
"There are reports of suicides by around 19 farmers following the Kharif crops failure this year in different parts of the state but the ruling BJP is still unconcerned toward this," state Congress spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi claimed.
Trivedi demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the relatives of each farmers, who committed suicide, and government job to theirkin.
The Raman Singh government has neither fulfilled its poll promise to procure paddy from farmers at minimum support price of Rs 2,100 per quintal nor given bonus of Rs 300 to them which also reflects its "anti-farmers" approach, Trivedi said.
The government should not escape from its responsibility by holding family disputes and alcoholism as reasons for suicides, the spokesperson added.
