Sub-inspector of Police Machilipatnam (Rural) Ramakrishna said the clash took place after residents of Pedda Karagraharam did not allow State Excise Minister K Ravindra, who was scheduled to inaugurate a panchayat office there as part of the ruling TDP's 'Jan Chaitanya Yatra', to visit the village located near Machilipatnam in Krishna district.
The villagers, who are opposing government's plan to acquire 14,500 acres of private land for Machilipatnam port and port-based industries, sought explanation from the minister on the status of the notification issued earlier this year on land acquisition.
No complaint has been filed in this regard, police said.
