"C-section claims have drastically outpaced claims pertaining to normal delivery over five years. In 2015, the average claimed amount was around Rs 50,000 for C-section whereas it is around Rs 27,000 for the normal delivery," according to an ICICI Lombard report.
This shows C-section births are on rise in India, it added.
The study was conducted across 10 cities and looked at claim insurance behaviour among women.
C-section related claims as well as normal delivery claims declined in 2015, it revealed.
Mumbai tops the chart when it comes to C-section as well as normal delivery claims, followed by the National Capital Region.
In fact, for the period 2015-2016, maternity claims alone made up for a major portion of total health insurance claims, followed by digestive, eye and common infection related claims, the report said.
