Canadian documentary film 'Watermark' by Jennifer Baichwal and Edward Burtynsky will have its India premiere at the second edition of Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF), which begins from October 24.
Baichwal will attend the four-day-long film fest along with Polish director Jacek Borcuch, whose film 'Lasting' will be screened here. German filmmaker Romon Zurcher will also grace the event with his presence.
Ritesh Batra directed 'The Lunchbox' will be presented at the festival by one of the film's producer, Guneet Monga. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan will showcase his caste-based movie 'Jai Bhim Comrade'.
Nishtha Jain's 'Gulabi Gang' will also be shown at the festival.
"Cinema loving people would get an opportunity to meet many international and national directors. This meeting would help the people to know more about the celluloid world," Kangra Deputy Commissioner C Palrasu said.
"This festival is being organised by the White Crane Arts and Media Trust at Mcleodganj in collaboration with the local district administration. It will have a free entry," he added.
Palrasu also said that the administration would help the trust in every possible way.
He said such an event would help tourism in the area. He hoped Dharamshala would appear on the international cinema map of the world.
Ritu Sareen and Tenzing Sonam, founders of the Trust, said, this festival was started with a view to promote contemporary art, cinema and independent media practices in the Himalayan region.
This festival would bring high quality, independent films along with their filmmakers in order to enrich knowledge and understanding of other societies. Promotion of local filmmaking talent by organising special screenings, master classes and workshops would be encouraged, they added.
