Cattle smuggler killed as BSF opens fire to control mob

A suspected cattle smuggler was killed when BSF jawans opened fire to control an irate mob who manhandled and injured three personnel.
According to BSF DIG Ajay Singh, the incident took place at Bhogdahar char along the Indo-Bangladesh border under Dhubri police station.
"We got information that cattle were being smuggled from Bhogdahar char and a small unit went there for patrolling at around 4:30 AM.
"But the villagers in large numbers came out and manhandled the personnel, injuring three of them. The mob even damaged the vehicle of the personnel," he said.
Warning them, the BSF personnel lobbed non-lethal grenades to disperse the mob, but the villagers did not disperse.

"Left with no option, our personnel fired two rounds. One Abul Khalek died in Dhubri Civil Hospital. We suspect him to be a smuggler. An investigation is on," Singh added.
Following the incident, senior officers have visited the place to take stock of the situation.
