CBI arrests four on charges of taking bribe

CBI has arrested a commandant of Railway Protection Special Force, a senior manager of a petroleum company, an officer working with passport office and a tout in four separate bribery cases.
In the first case, a senior manager working with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Mumbai was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for clearing a purchase order of Rs one lakh pending with him, the agency said here today.
The complainant's firm had been awarded an annual maintenance contract with the public sector undertaking and the bills had been pending since December 2013, CBI said.
The complainant informed the CBI which laid a trap and arrested the manager while he was allegedly accepting the bribe amount. He has been sent to judicial custody.
In another case, a commandant of Railway Protection Force S P Vashisht posted at Dhanbad was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from his two constables for passing favourable orders to regularise their periodical medical examination period and payments of their pending salary arrears of nearly eight months.
He was allegedly caught red handed while accepting bribe last night and subsequently arrested, the CBI said.
Searches were conducted at his residence in Dhanbad and New Delhi and his office at Dhanabad which led to recovery of Rs five lakh in cash and Rs 37 lakh in bank deposits, the CBI claimed.
He was sent to judicial custody today.
In another case, CBI today arrested Anjali Das Thakuria, personal assistant to the Regional Passport Officer, Guwahati while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a person for clearing his passport.
The complainant had alleged that he had applied for a passport in March this year but had failed to get its delivery.
For the same, he met the Thakuria who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 and the CBI arrested her when she was allegedly accepting the money.
CBI claimed that an additional sum of Rs 43,300 was recovered from her office drawer.
In a separate trap case, a tout Anil Pawar was arrested by the CBI in Thane for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500for clearance of a file.
Pawar claimed that he had been receiving money on behalf of a lower division clerk in the passport office in Thane against whom the agency registered a case.
