CBI today arrested an Income Tax Officer at Khatima in Uttarakhand for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant for favouring him in his income tax returns.
A case was registered yesterday against A K Singh, Income Tax Office, Khatima, Udhamsingh Nagar (Uttarakhand) on a complaint alleging that he was demanding a bribe of Rs two lakhs from the complainant in lieu of not putting his income tax claim under scrutiny.
"CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant at Income Tax Office, Khatima. Simultaneously, a search of the residential properties of the accused is under progress at Haldwani and Dehradun," CBI spokesperson said here.
