Speaking to reporters here, he condemned the gunning down of the workers and said only a CBI probe would bring to light the full facts.
"The shooting down of workers from Tamil Nadu is unjustified and deserves to be condemned in strongest terms', he said.
On the Puducherry government's free rice scheme, he said government was unnecessarily complicating it by modifying it. When neighbouring Tamilnadu was in a position to supply 20 kg free rice to around 1.90 crore ration card holders, why could not Puducherry continue to supply 10 kg rice a month free of cost, he asked.
Balakrishnan said CPI(M) would launch an agitation on April 23 to urge Puducherry government to restore status quo and supply rice through ration shops.
