CBI today carried out searches at the office of builders where they were allegedly giving Rs 30 lakh bribe to engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation for clearance to a banquet home and detained four persons.
CBI sources said based on a tip-off about the alleged bribe payment, the agency team carried out searches at the offices of builders Rajesh Agrawal and Manish Tuli in Timarpur area.
The sources said they seized Rs 30 lakh which were meant for the bribe to a Superintendent Engineer and some Junior Engineers of the civic body.
They said the engineers had sent two junior officials for collecting bribe from the businessmen.
The two officials and the businessmen have been detained by the agency, they said, adding that searches are still going on at various locations.
The sources said the two businessmen wanted clearance from the MCD engineers for construction of a banquet hall in the Wazirpur area.
They said a deal was struck with the engineers who had demanded nearly Rs 50 lakh for the clearance.
They said the agency carried out a surprise check while two junior officials had come to collect an installment of the alleged bribe amount.
The sources said searches are still going on.
