Terming the killing of five jawans on the Line of Control (LoC) as an "act of provocation", Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today called for restrain and careful handling of the situation.
"The attack on soldiers is an act of provocation but nations having stakes in regional stability and prosperity could avoid falling in trap laid by elements who are uncomfortable with the growing prospect of amity between India and Pakistan," Sayeed said in a statement here.
"We will have to rise above provocation and stay our course that has resulted in immense relief to people living in border areas," the former Chief Minister said.
"While the loss of life of our jawans is unfortunate, it should not derail the process that alone can ensure peace and security in future. Jingoism will lead us nowhere," the PDP leader said.
He expressed hope that efforts of building sustainable peace will be continued.
