CBSE mulls lifting ban on burqas, headgears

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is considering allowing students appearing for the central medical examinations to wear burqas and headscarves.
However, such students may be frisked separately, senior officials said.
"Aspects related to wearing of headgear during examination were being considered by the CBSE and a notification in this regard may be issued soon," an official said.
It is learnt that the Board has also asked its invigilators to be careful not to hurt religious sentiments while frisking.
The ban on long sleeves and veils was introduced last year - and upheld by the Supreme Court - after the All-India Pre-Medical Test test was cancelled and re-conducted amid reports of cheating with the use of electronic devices and microphones stitched to candidates' clothes.

The ban on veils and burqas, however, attracted protests from several organisations.
