Addressing a press conference here, Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the central government has been receiving complaints of not paying minimum wages to labourers in tea gardens of Assam and West Bengal.
"Although wage is a state subject, we will seek a report on minimum wages of tea industries in Assam and West Bengal. We will study and comment accordingly," he said.
Talking about the unorganised sector in general, Dattatreya said the government will amalgamate over 40 labour laws existing in the country.
"We will also upgrade all employment exchanges across the country as model career counselling centres," Dattatreya said.
The Minister said the Centre is committed to generate one crore employment in the next two years through his ministry.
