The district-level committees, to be headed by Collectors or Additional Collectors, will ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes for transgenders reach them, an official said here today.
In a circular issued here to Collectors, the social welfare department has asked them to form the said committees and identify people from the third-gender community in their respective areas, the official said.
As per the circular, the chief medical and health officer in each district will be on the committee along with a social worker, a psychologist and two representatives of the third- gender community.
The committee will issue certificates and identity cards at the district-level to people from the third-gender community, which will help them avail all the relevant government provisions like ration card, passport, Aadhaar card, birth certificate etc., he said.
