Continuing its upward march for the fifth straight day, chana prices surged almost 3 per cent to Rs 9,380 per quintal in futures trade today as participants indulged in raising speculative bets amid a firm trend at the spot markets on paucity of stocks.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in July spurted by Rs 272 or 2.99 per cent to Rs 9,380 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,650 lots.
On similar lines, the commodity for delivery in August edged higher by Rs 44 or 0.49 per cent to Rs 8,870 per quintal in 1,920 lots.
Analysts said speculative positions widened by participants, tracking a firming trend at the spot markets on paucity of stocks, mainly influenced chana prices at futures trade here.
