A court here sentenced a man to four months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 9 lakh on him in a cheque bounce case.
Narendra Shinde, a contractor with the state Excise Department, had taken a loan of Rs 5.55 lakh from his friend, Suresh Sonane, in 2012, the complainant's lawyer Baldev Rajput said.
Rajput said a cheque given by Shinde on October 6, 2014, bounced following which Sonane filed a complaint under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Thane First Class Judicial Magistrate A B Katte, in a recent order, convicted Shinde in the case and sentenced him to four months simple imprisonment, the complainant's lawyer said.
The judge also ordered that the fine amount of Rs 9 lakh be given to Sonane after it is recovered from Shinde, the lawyer informed.
