Three suicide bombers opened fire at Istanbul's Ataturk airport on Tuesday killing at least 42 people.
The 70-year-old music legend received backlash for her usage of emojis in the tweet she posted to condemn the incident.
"WE ALL PRAY FOR INNOCENT PPL IN TURKEY AIRPORT," she wrote followed by a bomb emoji and an explosion emoji.
Her followers felt her placement of the emojis was inappropriate and the "Believe" singer soon posted an apologetic tweet.
"Been thinking about my Poorly Placed, Insensitively Timed 'bomb Emoji.' No Excuse. I'm Used to Using Emoji to Help Say More Than 140 Letters. Sorry," she wrote including crying face and broken heart emojis.
"No Tweets today, Cause, Wanted to Think About Sensitivity. Meant No Disrespect, But That's Not Enough. DOWN A FEW PEGS, IS OK #WalkAMileInTheirShoes," she tweeted.
