Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's radio address 'Mann Ki Baat', Raman Singh launched the first edition of his interview format based radio programme to reach out to the rural population.
"Around 80 per cent of Chhattisgarh's population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. I also belong to a farmer's family and to I can understand their pain and agony. There is scarcity of rainfall and the threat of drought looms over a large area of the state. I wanted to assure my farmer brothers that they must make best use of government irrigation facilities available in their region," he said.
The government has decided to compensate farmers for crop loss he said, adding that besides paddy, eight more crops have been included under the National Crop Insurance Scheme.
He said that he will chair a cabinet meeting to review the monsoon and kharif crop situation on September 15, after which an action plan would be decided.
He spoke about education during his 17 minutes long interaction.
"To make our children more competitive at the national level, we have launched a special campaign called the Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Shiksha Gunavatta Abhiyan (quality education campaign) to enhance the standard of education in the state," he said.
