Chhattisgarh transfers Korba district collector

Chhattisgarh government today transferred Korba district collector after Congress alleged that he misused official machinery to help the ruling BJP.
As per the Election Commission direction, Rajat Kumar, an IAS officer posted as Korba collector has been shifted to Mantralaya in new Raipur, an official said here.
Director, Rajeev Gandhi Shiksha Mission Reena Babasaheb Kangle replaced him as Korba collector, the official added.
Earlier, Congress state chief Bhupesh Baghel in a complaint to the Election Commission had accused Kumar of allegedly favouring Banshilal Mahto, who is the BJP nominee from Korba Lok Sabha seat and ignoring Congress' complaints regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct allegedly by the ruling party in the state.
Baghel had also charged that collector had favoured the firm owned by Mahto's son Vikas in getting contracts of the construction works.
Contracts of construction works under corporate social responsibility (CSR) of companies functioning in Korba allotted to the company owned by Vikas.
The firm was awarded contract of work worth Rs 104 crore in two months, he had alleged.
Baghel had alleged that a contractor, who deals with work worth crores of rupees, also did the renovation work of Collector's office amounted Rs 14 lakh.
Several other government works contracts worth Rs several crore were allotted to the company of Vikas Mahto, he had alleged.
