With incidence of dog-bites on rise at various places in Uttarakhand, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) today asked the government to take immediate steps to address the threat to children from stray dogs.
SCPCR Chairman Yogendra Khanduri expressed concern over the rising menace of stray dogs in a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Rakesh Sharma and said hundreds of stray dogs are found roaming in Dehradun Mahanagarpalika area and they are the worst threat to children.
Khanduri demanded the state government to take steps to address the problem and asked the chief secretary to direct the municipal bodies to set people free from the fear of stray dogs in their respective areas within a specific time-frame.
He also demanded action against chairmen and executive officials of local bodies if they fail to resolve the issue in the stipulated time-frame.
Recently, dog-bite incidents have become more frequent here and other places in the state with as many as 24 people reportedly bitten by stray dogs in Mussoorie in a span of just two days earlier this month.
